3. Before Your Charter

3.1 What should I bring?

Essential:

  • Valid ID (passport or national ID)
  • Travel/medical insurance (highly recommended)
  • Medications and medical devices
  • Sunscreen (SPF 50+)
  • Sunglasses and hat
  • Light, breathable clothing
  • Swimsuit and beach towel
  • Seasickness medication (if prone to motion sickness)

Optional:

  • Waterproof bag or dry bag
  • Underwater camera
  • Personal snacks or beverages (alcohol permitted)
  • Entertainment (though the sea is entertainment!)
  • Bluetooth speaker (for deck music)

NOT permitted:

  • Illegal drugs
  • Weapons or explosives
  • Large suitcases (small/soft bags only)
  • Pets (except registered service animals)
  • Professional filming equipment (unless pre-arranged)

3.2 What if I'm concerned about seasickness?

Prevention tips:

  • Take seasickness medication 30 minutes before boarding (Dramamine, Kwells, or ginger supplements)
  • Eat a light, non-greasy breakfast
  • Stay hydrated
  • Focus on the horizon
  • Avoid reading or screens during the charter
  • Stay on deck in the open air (enclosed spaces worsen it)
  • Request a calmer area/shorter duration if you're sensitive

Crew support: Our crew is experienced with motion sickness and can provide remedies onboard (ginger tea, acupressure bands, medication). Ask us when you board!

3.3 What about sun protection?

Mallorca sun is intense. Plan ahead:

  • Apply sunscreen SPF 50+ every 2 hours
  • Wear a hat and sunglasses
  • Bring lightweight long sleeves or a rash guard for water activities
  • Drink plenty of water (dehydration is easy at sea)
  • Take breaks in the shade on the covered areas of the yacht

We provide some shaded areas, but full sun exposure is unavoidable. The Tempest 44 has an extended canopy on the sun deck, but bring your own umbrella for extra protection.

3.4 What safety procedures are in place?

Our crew provides a mandatory safety briefing at the start of every charter, covering:

  • Life jacket usage and location
  • Emergency evacuation procedures
  • Man-overboard protocol
  • Communication systems
  • Fire safety and extinguisher location
  • First aid kit and medical supplies
  • Emergency contact procedures

Life jackets: Wearing a life jacket is mandatory during:

  • Takeoff and arrival
  • Heavy weather or rough seas
  • Any guest request
  • Crew instruction

4.2 How far do we cruise?

Typical cruising range:

  • Half-day: 15–25 km from Puerto Portals
  • Full-day: Up to 50 km (Dragonera Island, Formentor, Cabrera National Park)
  • Multi-day: Ibiza, Cala Millor, Menorca, or custom itinerary

Actual distance depends on:

  • Weather and sea conditions
  • Guest preferences
  • Scheduled stops and anchorages
  • Fuel usage

Our captain will discuss your preferred route during pre-charter planning.

4.3 What is the cabin layout?

The Tempest 44 features:

  • One guest cabin with 4 berths (beds)
  • Ensuite bathroom with hot shower
  • Air conditioning
  • Storage for luggage
  • Individual reading lights and fan

Cabin accommodations are comfortable for 4 guests; larger groups may arrange additional accommodation on shore or charter overnight arrangements separately.

4.4 Can I snorkel or swim?

Yes! Swimming and snorkeling are highlights of most charters.

Guidelines:

  • Swim only in calm, designated areas chosen by the captain
  • Wear a life vest or snorkel vest
  • Never swim alone; use the buddy system
  • Avoid swimming if seas are choppy or visibility is poor
  • Watch for sea urchins and sharp rocks when snorkeling
  • Rinse off with fresh water after snorkeling

Equipment available:

  • Snorkeling gear (mask, snorkel, fins)
  • Life vests and snorkel vests
  • Underwater camera (on request)

Seabob Water Scooter (optional):

  • Rent for €250/day for an exciting underwater experience
  • Requires basic swimming ability
  • Captain provides safety briefing and supervision

4.5 Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Yes! You may bring your own:

  • Drinks and alcohol
  • Snacks and prepared foods
  • Picnic items

What's provided:

  • Welcome drinks (prosecco, soft beverages)
  • Coffee and tea
  • Light refreshments
  • Basic catering (optional add-on)

Premium catering is available at custom pricing—contact us for menu options (Mediterranean, vegan, dietary restriction options available).

4.6 What about smoking?

Smoking policy:

  • Permitted on deck in designated open-air areas
  • Prohibited inside the cabin, galley, and enclosed spaces
  • No vaping or cannabis (regardless of legal status in other regions)

Smoke must not drift into other guests' spaces. Respect others' comfort.

4.7 What noise restrictions are there?

Quiet hours: 22:00–08:00

During these times:

  • Keep music and conversations at low volumes
  • No loud equipment or engine testing
  • Respect sleeping guests and crew rest periods

Outside quiet hours: Reasonable volume levels appreciated; the sound of the sea is the best soundtrack!

5. Special Circumstances

5.1 What if the weather is bad?

Our commitment:

  • We monitor weather forecasts continuously
  • If dangerous weather is predicted (high winds, storms, rough seas), we will:
    • Notify you 48 hours before the charter
    • Offer to reschedule to another date free of charge
    • Provide a full refund if rescheduling isn't possible

During the charter:

  • If weather deteriorates unexpectedly, we may return to port early
  • The safety of guests and crew is our top priority
  • No refunds for early returns due to weather (already incurred costs), but future charter credits may be offered

Rough seas: Don't mean cancellation; they're part of the experience! Seas of 1–1.5 meters are typical in summer. Rougher conditions may worsen seasickness but are often manageable with medication and crew support.

5.2 What if someone gets injured or ill?

Onboard response:

  • Our crew is trained in basic first aid
  • We carry a comprehensive first aid kit
  • We can provide oxygen, seasickness remedies, and pain relief medication
  • We have satellite communication to contact emergency services

Serious medical issues:

  • We can request coast guard evacuation (usually 30–60 minutes)
  • Evacuation by helicopter is possible but very expensive (€3,000–€10,000+)
  • Travel insurance is essential to cover evacuation and medical costs
  • You are responsible for these costs if uninsured

Prevention: Disclose health conditions before booking; we can assess suitability and provide advice.

5.3 Can minors charter the yacht?

Yes, with conditions:

  • All guests under 18 must be supervised by a responsible adult
  • Children under 5 should wear a life jacket on deck at all times
  • Parents/guardians assume full responsibility for child safety and behavior
  • The crew is not responsible for childcare

Families often find the Tempest 44 perfect for memorable experiences. Confirm your family's needs when booking; we can adjust the itinerary for younger guests (calmer waters, shorter duration, educational stops).

5.4 Can I host a private event (birthday, wedding, proposal)?

Absolutely! We specialise in private charters perfect for:

  • Birthday celebrations
  • Wedding receptions or ceremonies
  • Proposals and anniversaries
  • Corporate team-building events
  • Family reunions

Custom packages available:

  • Premium catering
  • Champagne and premium beverages
  • Themed decorations (balloons, banners)
  • Photography or videography
